Our Pedagogical References

Inspired by international references such as Finland and grounded in scientific research on learning and human development, the Colleman Methodology prepares students for the challenges of the 21st century with an innovative, personalized, student-centered approach.

It is supported by five core pillars:

Active learning – students are protagonists, building knowledge in a practical and meaningful way.

Personalization – teaching tailored to each student’s needs and learning styles.

Socio-emotional skills – development of competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, empathy, leadership, communication, and self-management.

Educational technology – digital resources that enhance learning and bring students and teachers closer together.

Collaboration and formative assessment – learning built together, with continuous assessments, ongoing feedback, and personalized review roadmaps to ensure progress throughout the process.

Why Invest in Bilingualism From an Early Age?

Investing in bilingualism from an early age harnesses children’s natural ability to learn, developing concentration, creativity, stronger academic performance, a broader worldview, and more future opportunities. At Colleman, we believe speaking English opens doors and prepares your child to conquer the world.

Dual Literacy

Dual literacy (double literacy) is the process in which a child develops, either simultaneously or alternately, literacy in two languages (Portuguese–English). The program emphasizes phonics, spelling, grammar, and reading comprehension. Double Literacy in the early years does not confuse the child; it strengthens their ability to read and write in both languages in an integrated way, preparing them for an increasingly globalized world.

At this stage of school life, Colleman’s mission is based on 5 pillars:

Image

VERBAL COMPREHENSION

In Elementary I, language takes on new dimensions: reading, writing, and text interpretation become essential. We work on verbal comprehension so that students can express themselves clearly, understand different types of discourse, and develop critical thinking through language.

Image

MENTAL OPERATION

Students expand their capacity for logical and abstract reasoning. With practical and challenging activities, we stimulate mental operations such as analyzing, comparing, classifying, and problem-solving, preparing them to learn actively and autonomously.

CULTURAL CAPITAL

Contact with books, arts, sciences, new technologies, and multiple cultures enriches students’ repertoire. In Elementary I, the goal is to form readers of the world, sparking curiosity and broadening horizons beyond the classroom.

Image

SOCIALIZATION

Socialization is essential for a child’s holistic development. In the school environment, they learn to live in groups, respect rules, deal with differences, and build healthy relationships.

AUTONOMY

FAQ

How does the adaptation process for new students work?

We plan a welcoming period for new students and families, which may include visits, meetings, or gradual adaptation, ensuring emotional security and full integration into the school environment.

What is the pedagogical model adopted in Elementary School?

Our curriculum includes a bilingual approach, project-based learning, the use of educational technology, and a focus on the student’s full development — cognitively, emotionally, and socially.

My child does not speak English. How will they adapt?

Even without speaking English at first, your child will be welcomed, understood, and encouraged to communicate little by little. Bilingual immersion allows them to build vocabulary gradually, without pressure, until they feel confident to speak.

How is the tablet used at this stage?

Tablet use in Elementary School I is pedagogical and guided, always with teacher supervision. It is not a free-use resource, but a tool to enhance learning.
